Few places in Europe offer a coastline as dramatic, charismatic, and photogenic as Pembrokeshire. Towering cliffs, sweeping sandy bays, turquoise water, and vast skies create a natural stage that elevates wedding photography into something truly unforgettable.

For me, this landscape is deeply personal.

I grew up here. As a child, my mother took me to beaches all along the Pembrokeshire coast. Weekends meant exploring coves, scrambling along cliff paths, and discovering hidden stretches of sand where the Atlantic rolls in with incredible power and beauty. Over the years I’ve come to know this coastline intimately — not just the famous beaches, but the quieter corners, the viewpoints, the way the light behaves at different times of day.

That familiarity makes an enormous difference when it comes to wedding photography.

A Natural Studio on the Edge of the Atlantic

One of the most remarkable things about photographing weddings in Pembrokeshire is the quality of the light. When the sun shines, the coast becomes radiant. The sea sparkles in deep blues and greens, cliffs glow with warm colour, and beaches stretch out like cinematic backdrops.

But Pembrokeshire is equally magical when the sky is overcast. Soft cloud cover diffuses the sunlight and creates beautifully balanced illumination — much like a giant studio softbox placed over the landscape. Skin tones look natural, shadows are gentle, and the atmosphere becomes wonderfully romantic.

In other words: there is always beautiful light to work with.

A Brief Escape from the Wedding Crowds

During the wedding day, I often suggest taking 30 minutes away from the celebrations with the couple. It’s a small window of time, but it can produce some of the most extraordinary photographs of the entire day. We slip away from the reception for a relaxed coastal walk, breathe in the sea air, and create portraits surrounded by the vast Atlantic landscape. The cliffs, beaches and open horizons add scale and drama that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else.

These moments are often some of the calmest and most memorable parts of the day for couples as well. A chance to take a breath; to enjoy9 and appreciate the magnetude of the celebration and occasion.
